Are you interested in a PhD Scholarship with Stokes?
We have openings for funded PhD Scholarships on the theme of thermal energy management in telecommunications – one of today’s critical issues for the industry. The following topics will be addressed:
Thermal control of photonics devices
Thermo-mechanical challenges in Photonics Integrated Circuits (PICs)
Dynamic thermal management of active antenna arrays
The scholarships are sponsored by the CTVR Telecommunications Centre, a multi-university research initiative supported by Science Foundation Ireland.
The Scholarships will be conducted in conjunction with Bell Labs, the innovation engine of Alcatel-Lucent, a worldwide R&D community that focuses its efforts on key technologies for telecommunications. It is renowned as the birthplace of information theory, the transistor, the laser and the UNIX operating system. Bell Labs Ireland’s research facility in Dublin is a leading end-to-end systems and solutions lab working on thermal management, wireless sensor networks, autonomic networking, semantic data access, and services-centric operations.
Successful candidates will benefit from one or more placements at Bell Labs, active industrial and academic collaborations, and a generous stipend.
Likely qualifications, knowledge, and experience
A honours bachelors or masters degree in any domain related to mechanical engineering, electronics, physics or materials science. Candidates may also be in their final year of their primary degree.
