Dr. Jason Stafford is a postdoctoral researcher and member of the research staff at Stokes Institute. He is currently involved in the EU aeronautics programme CRESCENDO, which is focused on promoting a multi-partner and multi-discipline virtual design environment for the development of new aeronautical products using more cost and time efficient methods. As part of UL's role within this collaborative project, he is investigating modelling and simulation improvements that can be used to reduce CFD requirements in the design of electronic equipment. His main areas of interest include fluid mechanics and heat transfer, with particular emphasis on the combined thermal and energy management of electronics. These interests originated from his PhD research which involved fundamental experimental investigations characterising miniature convective cooling solutions suitable for integration within portable electronic applications. He has authored or co-authored 10 refereed publications in journal and conference proceedings.
Education: BEng in Mechanical Engineering (UL), and PhD (UL)
Research interests: Thermal/Energy management of electronics; Local heat transfer and velocity field measurement techniques; Reduced order modelling of multiscale fluid and heat transport phenomena.
