Kieran Hanly graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Limerick in 2004. Kieran has received industrial experience in ARA construction in the United States. He worked in the Planning and Estimating Department where his duties included project management, CAD design, quality control and assisting in contract procurement. His current research areas of interest include the design and development of micro cooling solutions.
PhD Project Title: Micro Fans for Electronic Thermal Management
Elevated heat dissipation and simultaneous reductions in package sizes are well documented for a range of electronic systems. The problem is heightened in portable systems where the space available for the implementation of an active cooling methodology is limited and conventional cooling products are too large. The current research involves the use of novel planar fans in conjunction with constructal heat sink designs to address this problem.
