Dr. Michael Reid a Senior Research Fellow at the Stokes Institute, graduated in Materials Science from the University of Limerick in 1999, from there he took up a Postgraduate Scholarship at the Materials & Surface Science Institute, receiving a doctorate in 2002.  He has a strong track record in collaborating with the Institute’s academic partners and industrial clients on electronic component reliability issues. Since 2004, he has lead the Corrosion Strand of the Centre for Telecommunications Value-Chain Research (CTVR), a multi-institutional research partnership with Bell Laboratories / Alcatel-Lucent funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). In addition, Dr. Reid is the Principal Investigator on a research project, funded by Enterprise Ireland, which aims to develop and commercially exploit IP in novel interconnection technologies for electronics. His research interests include material characterisation, atmospheric corrosion and accelerated corrosion tests, reliability physics, nanomaterials, and chemical and microstructural equilibration of coating systems.
