Oliver Taheny graduated from the University of Limerick with a Bsc in Education in 2004. His first encounter with research came in the form of his final year project which determined the capability of using PDMS microstructures as sub-bandage pressure sensors for possible use in the medical industry. This research included fabrication of the microstructures using a Replica Moulding Process from a lithographically produced master mould. The micro structures were then characterised using Young's modulus. On completion of his degree, Oliver realised that there was a gap in his knowledge of physics and so proceeded to compete a one year graduate diploma in Industrial Physics, graduating in 2005. This gave him further opportunity to carry out research. His subsequent research was based on the possibility of replacing PDMS with another polysiloxane that was UV curable, which eliminates thermal deformation often seen in PDMS microstructures. This research involved an analysis of the chemistry of Polysiloxanes as well as making recommendations for a new fabrication method.

Oliver joined Stokes in September 2005 and his research interests are currently based on fluid flow and pressure drops in Microfluidic devices in both single and biphasic fluid flows.
