Stefano Chiavaroli obtained a Master degree in Management Engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy in 2006. Carrying out an experimental analysis of laminar flows through PMDS rectangular micro-channels using the micro-PIV technique he completed a 6-months stage at the Stokes Research Institute in the University of Limerick, Ireland. In October 2006 Stefano took a Marie Curie European Postgraduate Scholarship for Early Stage Training to study at Stokes (2006-2009).

PhD Project Title: Development of a Microfluidic Cell Sorter for Leukaemic Diagnostic Platforms

The project involves using fluids and optics at the microscale to identify, manipulate and sort patient cells for analysis in a PCR micro-TAS system. During the study Stefano will also focus the attention on particle behaviour and measuring particles and cells at the microscale.
