Dr. Tara Dalton is currently the Assistant Director of the Stokes Research Institute at the University of Limerick and a Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering. She is also Technical Director for the biofluidics strand within the Institute. Dr Dalton has a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering awarded in 1994 and her PhD, awarded from the University of Limerick in 1997, is on measurements and scaling in enclosure heat transfer. Her current research interests are in the development of microfluidic devices for diagnostics, drug discovery and cell-cytology. She has also interested in optical techniques for measurement at the microscale and dimensional analysis in heat transfer and fluid mechanics. At present, the primary application of her work is in the development of medical diagnostic systems for genetic analysis of childhood luekaemia. She has graduated 2 PhD Students with current supervision of 8 PhD Students, published over 40 refereed papers, won over €2 million Euro of funding, and lectured internationally in Europe and the Far East on heat transfer and fluidics.
