Professor Rajnish Gupta graduated in Biomedical Science and Medicine from St. George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London in 1985. He then trained in general medicine before specialising in Medical Oncology at the Royal Mardsen Hospital and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London where he was a Clinical Fellow for five years. During his fellowship, he took a postdoctoral thesis in molecular biology at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund laboratories with the late Dr. Julia Bodmer and Professor Sir Walter Bodmer. He was appointed Senior lecturer and Consultant in Medical Oncology in the University of Glasgow in 1994 and then returned to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London as Senior Lecturer in 1996. He was also Honorary Consultant, a recognised Teacher and Examiner for the University of London and ICRF group leader with an interest in the molecular biology and genetics of lymphoma. In 1999, Dr. Gupta moved to Limerick in Ireland to develop cancer services in the region and continues as Consultant in Medical Oncology and Regional Director of Cancer Services. His numerous publications and presentations reflect his main interests in lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, molecular biology, high-dose therapy and germ cell tumours.
