IRCSET PhD Scholarships

The Irish Research Council for Science Engineering and Technology (IRCSET) are currently offering scholarships to graduates in order to pursue a postgraduate qualification by research. Typically the scholarships are awarded to students who graduate with first class honours degrees, although exceptional candidates with upper second class degrees are also considered.

If you are interested in an IRCSET scholarship, consider submitting your application in conjunction with the Stokes Institute. We have an outstanding record of success in the scheme, and our current portfolio of funded research projects offers a range of exciting themes for your scholarship. Post-Doc and PhD Vacancies in Energy Efficient Buildings

In March 2007 the EU’s leaders signed up to an agreement to source 20% of Europe’s energy from renewable sources by 2020. As approximately one half of Europe’s energy demand comes from heating and cooling, these sectors will be required to make a significant contribution to this target. In order to reduce heating and cooling energy consumption there is increased need for new models that can react in real time to the changing environment through integration with sensor networks in a range of building types.

Post-doctoral and PhD positions are currently available within Stokes to develop models for building infrastructures that make optimum use of  available sensors to achieve maximum energy efficiency within the building environment. Further details of the proposed project and vacancies may be found here.

PhD Scholarships

We have openings for funded PhD Scholarships on the theme of thermal energy management in telecommunications – one of today’s critical issues for the industry. The following topics will be addressed:

Thermal control of photonics devices

Thermo-mechanical challenges in Photonics Integrated Circuits (PICs)

Dynamic thermal management of active antenna arrays

The scholarships are sponsored by the CTVR Telecommunications Centre, a multi-university research initiative supported by Science Foundation Ireland, and they will be conducted in conjunction with Bell Labs, the innovation engine of telecommunications giant Alcatel-Lucent. Further details...
